About the Author

Rebecca Ruter Springer (1832-1904) first published her vision of heaven in the early 1900s. Mrs. Springer was unconscious for some days while the vision was unveiled to her; the vision itself covers a period of years. Rebecca Springer said each person would need to draw his or her own conclusions about the vision, but she had reported it as it had come to her at the time. She came to understand the vision as a series of basic instructions about heaven rather than a revelation of the past or future. She said the initial instructions from the vision came in the form of illustrations, in a style as if one were teaching truths to children. Then, the application and meaning of these illustrations were given. Rebecca wrote, "I am painfully aware of the fact that I can never paint for others the scenes as they appeared to me during those wonderful days...with the hope that it may comfort and uplift some who read, even as it then did, and as its memory ever will do for me, I submit this imperfect sketch of a most perfect vision."

I recently lost my son, reading this book helped me better understand the life in the upper place which my heart so desires to go and live with my Lord and Savior. I only want what God has set before me and to know that I will see my son and know other relatives that have crossed over before me is exciting and peaceful. The thought of leaving the earthly cares behind and concentrating on our Fathers business in heaven is so very enlightening and stimulating to my being, the river of life that I have been taught about is so inviting to my mind, body and soul. The thought of the river washing the earthly cares away is simply amazing. Thank you for sharing what God has allowed you to experience and reveal to us who are left behind here on earth. What a powerful portion of God's grace we can look forward to in our life to come.

So to break in my brand new Kindle Touch, I purchased this book. Springer claimed to have visited Heaven during a severe illness and documented her experience through it, originally entitled Intra Muros or My Dream of Heaven.Truth be told, her story is amazing. There is an authentic feel to her descriptions, though I was struck by a few curiosities. I'll handle those shortly. First, however, the positives!Springer has a gift for description. Even when attempting to explain the unfathomable, she takes care to break down lofty images into manageable portions. Though relying heavily on flowery language, it doesn't seem tedious or superfluous. One gets the impression that every page really is a prayer of thanksgiving and awe, beckoning the reader to hope for the possibility that her descriptions are, in fact, what await us upon death. This sincerity of conviction is what makes this book so captivating and comforting.Next, her understanding of Heaven is truly wonderful. Mansions built by the loving hands of God through each of our loved ones dot the perfect landscape. Holy lakes and rivers that souls truly cleanse and refresh themselves in, the companionship of angelic choirs, the incomprehensible, but much appreciated movement of Divine Will that all creatures happily submit to without hesitation... it is utopia. However, souls aren't all just running around, blissfully aimless. Life, indeed, continues on - preachers still preach (Martin Luther and John Wesley are mentioned), great authors still write, and missionaries still teach others the greater mysteries of Christ. Families joyfully reunite, friends share memories of their "earth lives" and seeming strangers rejoice in the surprising moments on earth that led to their meeting in Heaven.I admit to, myself, longing to know this place for myself... to see and feel and experience these emotional and spiritual highs with my own loved ones.Wonderful were her dealings with Jesus. Though she didn't detail much of their conversations, she was specific in her emotional and spiritual reactions to Him. Each time Christ makes Himself present... it's as if even through her words the pages (er, my Kindle?) would light up. Incredible. Some things I was surprised with, however...There was no mention of Our Lady. I noticed that almost immediately because I was awaiting this woman's reaction to the Blessed Mother (she is Methodist). Considering how much "time" she spent in Heaven, I figured there'd be a meeting somewhere along the line between her and the Blessed Mother. There was no mention of guardian angels, either. Sure, angels would crop up now and again during particular passages, but no mention was made of personal guardian angels. Her brother-in-law, Frank, seemed to act as her guardian angel much of the time, but I don't think that was her purpose in explaining him in such a way.The more I thought about it, the more I realized that even from her own writings, a visit by the Blessed Mother may not have been a "reward" her soul was ready to receive at that point. Being a Methodist, her views on the Blessed Mother probably weren't very fleshed out. As a result, it isn't surprising that Mary wouldn't pop into her spiritual journey "so soon upon arrival" when there were other things God may have wanted her to understand first... especially if she were to be tasked with explaining Heaven to those of us still on earth. As for guardian angels, I really don't know.Would I recommend this book? I already have. Ha ha. Also, I'll be seeing my mother this weekend, and I'll be sharing it with her Kindle so she's able to read it as well. The views expressed within the pages are very Christian and very much in line with what the Church teaches. Many of the souls in Springer's book do exactly what St. Therese of Lisieux said when she wrote "I will spend my heaven in doing good upon earth."All in all, it was a quick and beautiful read. My heart felt lifted upon completion, and my soul longed more deeply for that which we lost through sin. Any book that can do that gets an A+ from me. :)

I was given a copy of this book to borrow just after the death of my father. Death seems so final to us. It is a pain that you know will never heal. You miss the separation with your loved one and at times (even as time passes) can still be overwhelming. I guess I needed this book! My father was a Christian and I knew where he was but that didn't help my pain down here. When I read this book it was like water to a person dieing of thirst. The book was obviously written nearly a hundred years ago and it shows with some of the word usage, but this in no way diminishes the impact of Springer's experience. Unfortunately, I think for years I had unknowingly bought into the idea (at least subconsciously) that heaven was a place where we sit on clouds strumming harps with halos in white robes and that if someone turned on a fan we would whisp away into millions of particles because we were without substance, and further that we will all love everybody the same and that our relationships here are over. Funny huh? Not funny, very sad! This book reminds us that heaven is a real place and that our loved ones miss us as we do them and are awaiting our arrival. That those relationships are not over but continue albeit then in a perfect way. The beauty she explains excites me, but her experience with her reuniting of loved ones and ultimately Christ is exhilarating. If you are an atheist or agnostic then this book isn't for you. But for those of the Christian faith, if you can believe Springer's account, you will be thrilled. I miss my father tremendously but because of this book it got a little easier!

The questions of Heaven and what it is like can only be answered by experience. I, myself having made a partial visit by deaths experience due to a heat attack, my interest in the after life has intensified. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are real. Heaven is a real place as well as the depths of hell. God is speaking daily to those who will listen that He is a God of great mercy and grace. And He is doing this, not only through the Bible, but through the experiences of others, such as Rebecca Springer. Read with an open mind and heart and receive from a LOVING Heavenly Father.

I love this book. It's a remarkable story of a woman in the 1800's who was a good distance away from home when she got I'll at the home of friends and remained there 3 weeks. At that point in a very weakened state her deceased brother in law came to the French door in her room and asked her to come with him for a rest. She went in his arms and awoke in a place of perfect beauty that she slowly realizes is heaven and she describes in great detail her experience which seems to last several years but one day wakes up back in her friends upstairs bedroom and is well enough to return home to her husband and son, having not lost any time since she left. She then is careful to say she does not claim she went to heaven, but only relates the experience that she had. It brought such comfort to my heart & I believe it would comfort anyone who has lost a loved one and longs to see them again. I have given it & recommended it to anyone I know going through that.
