Terry Looper's book Sacred Pace is as life changing to me as The Purpose Driven Life. It is easy to read and he makes the steps easy to implement. A MUST READ!!!
Disclosure: I have known Terry & Doris Looper for over 30 years.Three main things that I particularly admired about Mr. Looper’s book:1) He did not use the book to show how God blessed his goals and desires, but rather he honestly sought God’s will for whatever it turned out to be.2) He did not pretend that God revealed to him his ultimate destiny or purpose or the nature/form/shape of God’s plan for him. Rather, he discovered that being one with God is a matter of attentively and alertly walking in the light with Jesus moment by moment and day by day.3) The fact that Mr. Looper is among the .001% of the super-wealthy means that he has, within the confines of earthly matter, space and time, unlimited options for how he chooses to apply his time, of which he has no more than anybody else. And he has chosen, after careful consideration and study, that knowing God, being one with Him and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, knowing and doing His will, is the most important, high-leverage, high-return and profitable use of his time and effort. This can be seen as a profound modern-day Solomonic search with a better outcome than “A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work,†(Ecclesiastes 2.14; 3.12; 5.18-20; 8.15; 9.7-10; and see 12.13-14).This is an excellent first-hand account by a godly man on life’s front line of earnestly wishing to know and follow God’s will in the enemy’s territory. This book would make a good companion reading with Dallas Willard’s scholarly Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God (formerly In Search of Guidance). I’ll be recommending the book to friends and using it in small-group studies.
In the spirit of full disclosure I have know Terry Looper for about ten years. That being said I highly recommend Sacred Pace as wise practical guide to spiritual discernment. While there are several very good, more theological heavy books on discernment such as Ruth Haley Barton's Pursuing God's Will Together, Sacred Pace is a down to earth guide written by a guy who has learned these practices through brokenness and trial and error. Terry Looper's transparency is striking throughout the book. I learned a lot from reading this book and it has changed several of my spiritual practices for the better. I will give this book to many of my friends and recommend it highly.

Terry's first book is a grand slam. Full of real life examples of successes and failures. I loved Terry's transparency and honesty. You will benefit as I have from incorporating the 3 Core Truths and 4 Steps which are based solid Biblical truths. We all owe Terry a "Thank You" for taking time to write down his secrets of a joy filled, spirit-directed life.
Terry, I just finished reading your book. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to be so transparent in an area that affects many (most?) of us while in our own strength as we try to serve our Lord. I saw many of my personal traits in your revealed weaknesses and agree with your process for “getting neutralâ€.
This book is a memoir by Terry Looper, not a book on discernment. The author is a very wealthy businessman, and he tells his story of how he made his fortune. It's not a bad story of how the author became wealthy in the energy business in Texas, but it's not at all what I expected from the description of the book.
Terry is very transparent in his successes and failures. When he started pursuing a real relationship with Christ, his perspective changed. The book woke me up. What am I chasing and why? Terry gives you a step by step process when making decisions big and small. The key is Jesus must be involved. Please read this book, it’s worth your time
