I loved this book. I received it and started reading and I could not put it down. I read the whole book in a little over 2 and half hours. I cried, laughed, cried again and again as her and Alan's story very much resembles mine and my husbands. I was so overwhelmed at all of the similarities in fact I wished I had a way of contacting her to tell her how much this book has helped me and given me new strength to overcome obstacles. Of course, my belief in God and His power is what I know is healing me, my husband and our marriage, but it was refreshing to know that others have gone through the same struggles, especially a celebrity couple that appeared to have it all. Of course, I am not implying that celebrity couples have it easier, in fact, I'm sure in some ways they have it harder, but I felt that Denise shared their story openly and honestly without pointing the finger at Alan or disrespecting him in any way, in fact, she speaks freely about things she herself needed to change. As far as some of the negative comments about her bragging about their wealth etc., I didn't get that impression at all, in fact I felt she was trying to make the point that even though they had all the material things life could offer, they were ignoring the incredible gift of true love that God blessed them with, and that their paths had strayed so far from God that it was no wonder that their lives were taking a downward spiral. Finding her way back to God and putting Him first always, is what saved her and her marriage. Those who want to focus on her speaking of their riches are completely missing the point of this book. I think she and Alan are an amazing couple that faced real life challenges and temptations but were able to overcome them, only with the help and guidance from God. I hope and pray that my husband and I have the same happy ending that she and Alan share and I have faith that God will provide that to us as we put all of our love and faith in Him.
Denise Jackson chronicled her life with one of my favorite country singer of all time, Alan Jackson. Her brutal honesty in sharing both she and Alan Jackson's weaknesses and limitation were shocking, I must say. The book is so engaging, some several weeks after reading it, I can remember actual quotes from the book. I can tell you their entire story from beginning to end. Though a huge Alan Jackson's fan, I hesitated from reading this book, due to rumors I've heard in the past of Alan Jackson's infidelity. And quite frankly, I did not want details. She did not give us details. The infidelity is mentioned in the same breath as their decisions to fight for their love. The book mostly focused on Denise and Alan Jackson's struggles and trials, their love, their weaknesses, and I cannot say this enough, their determination to fight for their love. I finished reading the book having a whole new respect for Alan. I had already loved him before reading this book, I love him even more after reading it. You know a man is special when his woman is still in love with him after eighteen years of marriage.
I bought this Kindle book last year and finally got around to reading it, and it's much better than I expected. I like Alan Jackson's music a lot, but I'm not a hardcore fan. His wife comes across as very honest but still respectful. This is not a dish-the-dirt type of book, but neither does it sugar coat events. The main message is a very important one, and that is to give God His rightful place in your life. Another message is that troubled marriages can be worth working to save, and people can and do change. As a Christian I loved its messages, but this is an inspiring book for anyone struggling in a marriage or going through difficulties in life. I also admire her courage in being willing to share such a difficult period of her life in the hope that others might be helped or encouraged by it. The story of how he got into the music business is also interesting. I highly recommend it for Christians and non-Christians alike.
The title of this book is misleading but I can see why it was titled that way. You may think that it is all about Alan like I did. But, boy was I surprised and delighted. Thank you Denise Jackson for sharing your private moments and most of all for helping me find a closer walk with Jesus. A truly uplifting book that has helped me so much. This book was hard to put down.
Most of us see the glamour and wealth of success w/o any idea of the journey​ and sacrifices required to achieve it. And don't know first hand the losses required to remain focused on what really matters. I enjoyed the "down to earth" insight and am thankful that this couple is grounded in the best source of love and truth. I highly recommend this book .
I am a longtime fan of Alan Jackson .His wife as written a beautiful book about their life. She tells of the good as well as the not so good being married to a famous country music star. She is a strong christian woman and she shows you just how strong she is in this book. I have read the book several times and enjoy it very much.
I can't imagine how humbling an experience this was for Mrs.Jackson to write this book but I'm so glad she did!It really hits home the fact that at the end of the day,we are all more alike than we like to admit.I applaud her on the way she handled her life and above all gave all the glory to God.Read this book of you are a fan of Mr.Jackson and his music but you will come away with so much more,this I promise.
Enjoyed the parts about Alan and Denise, however, it was to spiritual for my liking. Would not recommend.
