This is a great book on celebrating Eid, from eating well to helping others, and I love that Duck starts out trying to celebrate with a christmas tree ("No, that's what our Christian friends do") and then a menorah (ditto, for our Jewish friends). Raising young kids in the US, it was really nice to have that nod to other traditions that my kids are well aware of, and then delve into what we do. I do think some of the words / concepts were a little advanced for my 5 year old (e.g. compassionate, waxing crescent moon), but the book therefore also presents an opportunity for discussion. And there is a page at the end that explains crescent moons, lunar months, and so forth. Overall, love it!
My son has many books, but this is his favorite. I read it to him almost every night. He loves it and can't get enough of it. I highly recommend it. It's a good way to teach our kids about different cultures as well. Illyas and duck are the best!
I absolutely love how this book acknowledges the practices of other religious festivals. My kids "celebrate" Christmas with our Christian family and it was tricky explaining that Eid is not Christmas #2! This book helps a lot.
I ordered a set of books for my 4 year old on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr. I was looking through this book before I packed it for him, and absolutely loved it! It addresses the questions kids may have surrounding the holidays. Ilyas is the little boy the readers can relate to, and Duck provides some comic relief. Such a wonderful present - I'm so excited for him to read this and share it with his 13 month old sister!
Such a great gift! I always gift this to people for baby showers or to young toddlers and it's always a big hit!
As Muslims living in a country where different religions are practiced sometimes, Islam fades into the background and we forget to teach our children the importance of remembering where they came from and important things about their religion, even though these are children's books, Ilyas & Duck are definitely good to have because they are cute and animated religious knowledge, one way to leave a mark in the hearts of our kids so they don't grow up lost in such a big world.
Awesome book! I re-read thisTo my toddler several times and she loved looking at Duck and copying his facial expressions! Great way to explain Eid to children of all faiths. As an educator, I highly recommend this book to be added to school libraries to celebrate diversity and holidays. Well done!
My boys (3 and 5) loved this book. Great addition to Illyas and the Duck search for Allah. Hope more books will be added to the series. There are lovely bright colors and the wording rhymes. Which everyone loves.
